Whether a parent or an educator those hard and challenging moments where a child is elevated and you don’t know what to do can happen to all of us. Feeling that frustration towards a child and self-doubt in your own ability to navigate those difficult moments, questioning the very strategies you have read about and wondering if your approach is not the ideal one. As a behaviour analyst and parent coach with over 24 years experience I have seen how general strategies don’t work for everyone. This is what has led me to focus on creating a BRIDGE between adult and child, by developing a deep understanding for what is behind those outbursts and then developing a road map of strategies that are reflective of what is at the root. Drawing from research in fields including child development and behaviour I use a BRIDGE framework I have created that involves walking you through a deeper understanding of a child’s complex behaviours and building out a road map of strategies with emphasis not just on discipline but rather what can be done to prevent the occurrences and help deepen your connection and reduce stress by creating more calm. Emphasis is placed on preventative strategies vs. solely on reactive ones and is framed in a supportive manner to strengthen the bond you have with your child.

Hi, I’m Michele!

I have a bachelor’s degree in Social Work and a Master’s in Special Education and spent the early years of my career path working with families of children with a wide variety of developmental and physical needs, providing 1:1 and small group support. Over time my career shifted to servicing families whose children were on the autism spectrum or who were experiencing behaviour…

Parenting ADHD/// This is a reminder to you that Parenting ADHD///

This is a reminder to you that parenting a child with ADHD does not mean you have to entertain and schedule every moment of their day.

But it does mean teaching them to self direct and find things to do will take work and patience. They don’t always have the skills to be ok in the bored and pivot.

💫 be sure to share this reminder with others.

Boundaries and parenting /// Somewhere along the Boundaries and parenting ///

Somewhere along the way we have lost sight of the importance of holding boundaries with children, setting limits and being ok when they are upset.

In its place there has been this trend in validating emotions and removing what is distressing for a child.

💫 but here is what I know and science backs— you can show compassion and empathy AND also hold boundaries. One does not need to be dropped for the other.

This is a reminder I hope we all hold close😊

Play is important /// Play is key part of any chi Play is important ///

Play is key part of any child’s development. It might look different for different kids but slowing down long enough to encourage children of all ages to PLAY remains key area development and learning happens in.

💫 so while summer is still here, let’s remember to encourage and model play 😊

The quiet feelings /// When you are a child strug The quiet feelings ///

When you are a child struggling with executive function you often will find yourself hearing more dont’s vs dos in your day, more fail vs wins.

💫So what if today you the parent spent more time and attention on your child’s wins. Just that. That’s it. Call attention to what they are doing 👏🏼👏🏼 vs what they aren’t that you want them to.

Let me know how that works for you 😉

Accommodations /// When we put in supports they a Accommodations ///

When we put in supports they are meant to help navigate, not avoid things that are hard.

As parents, it’s very easy fall into the trap of becoming your child’s executive function assistant. Verbally reminding, you creating the lists, you following up…..

But what if instead …

You knew and understood what skills they did and didn’t have and worked to put in the tools that your child can learn to use themselves, instead of them being reliant on YOU as the ultimate tool.

Welcome👋 to a space dedicated to providing evidence backed strategies and understanding about your child’s neurodiversity traits 😉

Lagging skills /// When kids are having a difficu Lagging skills ///

When kids are having a difficult time with an expectation it’s important that we consider if they have the skill.

And if they don’t, rather than keep putting the same expectation on them what if expectations shifted and focus was on SKILL BUILDING.

Kids can learn these executive functions 😉. Save this reminder for when you need it.

Let’s talk tech When it comes to tech and the dig Let’s talk tech

When it comes to tech and the digital world there is much debate around should parents give access or not to their child and the answer isn’t always an all or nothing.

Eventually they will have access to phones and tablets without you around.

💫 so let’s start talking about the importance of educating kids around safety. Before tech falls in their hands. What if we focused on building their understanding for safety and how to safely navigate all the pitfalls out there as a starting place.

This is where some incredible local moms and entrepreneurs have been quietly working to create a platform I wanted to share with you.
@techsafekids_official has quietly launched an online program for kids and parents to help “parents prepare their children for digital life with practical tools, expert insight and skill-based education.”
If you haven’t already be sure to check their IG page and website and explore the online game they have created to help kids learn in an engaging way. 😉

What we focus on /// Have you ever asked yourself What we focus on ///

Have you ever asked yourself where your parenting energy landed most in the day?

Was it noticing the effort or in noticing the missteps?

I know ! there are days that I it might feel harder but I challenge you to watch and see how you child responds when the attention shifts!

Let’s talk relentlessness /// Often, and yes not Let’s talk relentlessness ///

Often, and yes not always 😉 (nuanced), children with ADHD have an incredible capacity to break down parents To push , to ask, to sell, to erupt until you have nothing left but to say yes.

No judgement, it happens. But the more you understand the more you will appreciate the value of a unified and consistent parenting approach.

And truthfully, your child will appreciate the predictable outcome, even if they don’t tell you that. 😉.

PS. - don’t have capacity to hold the boundary, the. Make the adjust yourself vs waiting till they push you to say yes 😉.
